Aviat Networks, Inc. (“Aviat”) (Nasdaq: AVNW), the leading expert in wireless and access solutions, has today completed the acquisition of 4RF Limited (“4RF”), a leading provider of industrial wireless access solutions, including narrowband point to point/multi-point radios, LTE 5G cellular routers, for critical infrastructure networks worldwide.

The acquisition will provide existing 4RF customers with significantly strengthened corporate support while broadening the market and providing new customers for New Zealand based R&D. Ian Troughton, 4RF CEO, stated “I’m proud of the ability of our team that delivered us to this point. For the past year we have been looking for a partner that can fully realize our growth potential and Aviat is very well-placed to do this. Aviat has an excellent service ethos and deep market knowledge in their space, building strong alliances together within our respective customer bases will leverage our complementary strengths, and delivering superior commercial outcomes for end users and partners.”

Designed specifically for critical infrastructure networks including utilities, oil and gas, mining, and public safety applications the 4RF Aprisa family of private radio and LTE 4G/5G cellular routers offer industry leading reliability and performance. 4RF experienced record sales in the year ending 31 March 2024 up 23% from the previous year.

Aviat and 4RF both maintain R&D teams in Wellington, and the companies point to the growing demand for connectivity, security, and automation from critical infrastructure entities and public safety.

4RF CTO, John Yaldwyn, who founded the business back in 1998, reflected “From humble beginnings in the Wellington suburb of Johnsonville, today our industry-leading products are manufactured in Silicon Valley to address the demand for US made communications devices to service Field Area Networks worldwide. With a joint R&D team in Wellington’s Hutt Valley, the acquisition strengthens the investment in New Zealand R&D of a global leader in wireless technology.”

Moelis & Company LLC acted as exclusive financial advisor to 4RF in the transaction with legal advice provided by Wellington-based Minter Ellison.
